As the owner of Sciortino Tailors, Vincent Sciortino leverages the skills taught to him by his parents and continues the Sciortino heritage in his Red Bank, New Jersey store. His parents, Alfonso and Maria Sciortino started out as tailors in the town of Sciacca, Sicily and later owned a tailoring shop on Via Valdossola in Rome. The Sciortino, U.S. based operations began when Alfonso and Maria moved to Brooklyn from Italy in December of 1961 and opened a shop on 15th Ave. Subsequent to this entrepreneurial start, Alfonso was called in to run the tailoring department at Bergodoff Goodman’s in New York City. Yearning to be on his own, he opened a shop on 57th St. in Manhattan. Alfonso became well known within the celebrity circles and was sought after for custom suits by movie stars and celebrities such as Harrison Ford, Mike Tyson, Elton John, Tony Bennett, and Ron Howard. Anthony Hopkins wore a Sciortino design on the night he received his Academy Award for Silence of the Lambs.

With 7 generations of bespoke suit making experience, the staff at Sciortino Tailors delivers on original bespoke tailoring. The term “bespoke” dates from the 17th century, when tailors held the full lengths of cloth on their premises. When a customer chose a length of material, it was said to have “been spoken for”. A tailor, who makes your clothes, to your specific personal requirements, is called "bespoke".

Sciortino and his designers work with their hands, patience and courage, taking a single length of material and transforming it into a work of art. All of Sciortino’s creations are prepared by hand, on the premises - none of the work is farmed out. It is this level of commitment, customer service and individuality that makes owning a “Sciortino” unique. Much of Sciortino’s success is based on returning clients and word of mouth references. The Sciortino reputation speaks for itself.

Sciortino’s Red Bank store is a beautiful space with exposed brick, subtle lighting and faux painted walls that lend nicely to the quality product and service. Vincent and his staff offer the ultimate in customer service – they pamper you with individual attention; perhaps a glass of wine or an espresso w/ biscotti… and that sincere, personable style of Vincent himself, all lend themselves to the overall Sciortino Tailor’s experience.

When asked what drives him to be the best, Sciortino explains: “…what it comes downs to is, I love what I do; I thoroughly enjoy working with my clientele to create a one of a kind masterpiece and share in the happiness and pride they take in the way they look. Instant gratification from buying off the rack just cannot compare to this experience… the individual’s personality comes out in the clothing…”
